November 29, 2007

It was rough

I survived!

I can't even tell you if the medicine worked. It took 2 hours before the "eye" headache went away. Then I had banging-head-on-wall pain at the base of my skull for another 2 hours before that went away. So, if you count 4 hours result time as "working" then, yup, it worked.

However, 2 hours later I started having the eye pain again and went to bed.

Today I've got the "day after a migraine" stuff going on. Weak, shaky, tummy upset. And some eye pain along with being so foggy that I'll open a program on my computer and then can't remember what I was going to do.

Waiting for doc to call me about CAT results.

On the up-side, I got a call from my LYS about selling my markers at their classes. I only hope I remember the call when my brain stops spinning.

I hear my chair calling me. It says I should go and read a book and it will cradle me in its comfy goodness.

I hear.

And I obey.

Unhand that eyeball

To the person that's been using my eyeballs to play table tennis...COULD YA STOP ALREADY?!?!?!?!?!

It's been a week of pain and today I went back to the allergist. He laughed at my "Jinx" theory and then I kicked him in the nuts. He wasn't so sure it's a sinus infection. Might be migraines. So he gave me a sample pill to try and then proceeded to scare the crap out of me with the possible side effects when it starts to work. Then he sent me for a cat scan.

(Me and Giles (gone but not forgotten) with a completely different type of cat scan)
Yoga_kitty

It took me 3 hours to build up the nerve to take the pill but the headache is just too much. I took the pill and Tom's not allowed to go anywhere in the house until I'm sure I don't have any of the potential side effects - like dying. So we'll see if the headache goes POOF! before I do.

Morbid much?

Amused Monday

All right. Who's been there? Raise your hand.

Before I forget

My Mom has a friend (we'll call her "V") that lives in Brazil. V. had purchased a dog from us almost 30 years ago and they've been friends ever since.

V had a litter of puppies (show dogs) - 15 weeks old and almost ready to go home with their new parents. She bought some of those "draft stoppers" at her pet store and put them behind the puppy crates to ... you ready?... stop drafts. The puppies were puppies and chewed on them, went into convulsions and, after being rushed to the Vet, died.

The pet store said to V, "You shouldn't have put them on the floor." (At this point I would have swallowed my tongue from the idiocy of that sentence.)

There's going to be some analysis of the contents of the draft stoppers...and a lawsuit.

But the upshot of this is, if you have a puppy or a grown dog that chews a lot - and to be safe add cats too - be careful about using draft stoppers. Your fur-kids are too important.

Contest Winner!

Ladies and Gentlemen

We have a WINNER!!!

(Dramatic, right?)

Congrats to Rox for getting one cereal correct - I had to bend the rules a bit so I allowed 1 correct cereal out of 4.

And here's the proof...

Dsc00602_2

I didn't have a box of cheerio's, they're in one of those clear containers.

(Price Is Right announcer voice)

Rox has won a beeeeeeeeutiful set of Lima Pop Shoppe stitch markers. They're light. They're sparkly. They're everything a knitter could want.

Back to you Bob Drew!

p.s. I hope that everyone had a great Slapsgiving. :-D

Jinxed!

I had an allergist appointment, on Tuesday. It was a zoo in the waiting room and after a 20 minute wait I got to sit in an examining room for another 30 minutes. Big smiles for my iPod Touch and being able to watch some of my 55 GardenFork podcasts. (A very entertaining gardening/cooking/misc. podcast).

After 5 minutes with the doctor he asks if I've had any sinus infections. Nope, says I. Headaches but no infections.

Sooooooooooo, I've had a sinus headache since Wednesday and have a sneaky suspicion that I was jinxed by the allergist! Thanks, Doug! And you're welcome for the cheesecake! Bastard.

Tomorrow, cereal contest winner!

November 21, 2007

Caught up yet?

My Bloglines is down to "only" 648.

I've got 76 e-mails in my AOL account, most of them are comics strips to which I subscribe. (English is HARD!)

There's enough towelling and tissues, waiting to be put away, to sop up the Atlantic Ocean. (Thanks Costco.)

I've got a "thing" sitting in the garage for almost a year while I try to figure out where to put it...and then will have to learn how to use it.

I've got another "thing" in pieces, in my hallway, in a wooden box. Also must learn how to assemble and use.

Both "things" are for me and Tom so I don't want to do either without him.

I want to be able to do it all and have fun with it but I tend to get overwhelmed with everything that HAS to get done and then can't hone in on one single thing.

So with all of that I look forward to tomorrow morning, when Tom will be at work. Think I'll get anything done? Or will I say "Screw it all." and curl up with a book and a cup of tea?

Avoidance has worked so far.

Sing along

This goes out to a friend who shall remain nameless because I'm not going to tell everyone she's a year older. $39.99 plus tax isn't such a bad year.

I hope you have a great day!

November 19, 2007

It's that time of year

A snowy day in November, the week before Thanksgiving.

Dsc00601_2

It can only mean one thing.

Tom's baking cheesecakes!

Dsc00598

He worked all day, made 28 little cheesecakes and 4 big cheesecakes, and finished at about 9:30 which left me with this

Dsc00596
this morning. I wasn't going to take a photo of the sink because mixing bowls with cheesecake water is not a pretty sight. He did do a lot of clean-up but I wanted him to rest his feet so I'll take care of the rest, today.

Check out the garden. It looks like its very own winter wonderland.

Dsc00599_2_2

It should go back to looking like a weed-fest by Wednesday, when it's going to be about 60 degrees.

Nope. Nothing wrong with the climate here, Mister Prez.

A bit of sock yarn

It's happened. While looking for the newest addition to my sock yarn stash - Merino Cashmere Sock in Colorway: Earth from The Knittery. SO drool worthy.

Dsc00592_2

I found 2 skeins I had forgotten about. It's a sad state of affairs and I can't hold off pulling it all out and organizing it. Well, can't hold off much longer, anyway. Maybe I can start it on Thanksgiving morning, while Tom's at work.

It's even more necessary because I believe I might have ordered 2 skeins of Raven Clan. I was on Ravelry and then everything went hazy so I can't be sure.

Update on yesterday's post. Chocolate chip cookies made with mint/chocolate chips are very good. Also very gone. :-)

Friday highlights

Today, while driving to my SECOND Apple lesson in 1 week (first lesson was cut short by a traffic accident - not mine - that made me 30 minutes late) it was so cold it was SNOWING. Nothing heavy, mind you. But there was WHITE. STUFF. COMING. FROM. THE. SKY.

Traumatic.

The stress was eased when I got home and found a box on the front step. A BOX! Can you imagine? Oh. You can, can't you? But you don't know what was in it. Nyah, nyah.

Dsc00591_2

It was my Knitters' Coffeeswap 3 package!

Barbara went nuts with the treats and I was able to wait 5 minutes to take a photo before digging in. Don't worry, Wes didn't get into any of it but he is the inspector.

Milanos, kisses, peppermint patties, peppermint truffles, homemade chocolate mint chip cookies, orange toast (I've already asked how she made it), Nestle Treasures Cappuccino Truffle bar, Valrhona dark bar, Lindt dark with orange bar, (deep breath to continue), Anna's Orange and Chocolate Mint thins, Caribou Reindeer coffee and a skein of Butterfly Super-10 (which I love).

It's too bad that Tom is working tonight because I'm going to have to make all of these treats VERY welcome by myself.

Snow? What snow?

What? Knitting?

FINALLY some knitting content.

Done up to row 117. Only 33 more rows to the armhole decreases. Could the end be near?
Dsc00583_2

And, of course, kitty content. Sunday was wash day, after all.

On the flip(phone)-side

The only thing worse than car-driving-cell-phone-holding-people is car-driving-cell-phone-holding-people with their kids in the car.

And here's another reason cats are useful to have around. (The link wasn't working so I used a snapshot, instead.)

Saturday Cereal Quiz and CONTEST

Saturday Morning Cereal Quiz

What's your score? I only got 35%! But in my defense, we didn't have a lot of cereal when I was growing up - not even sure I'm done growing up - and now we have 4 different cereals in our cabinet.

HEY! I'm going to have a CONTEST!

The person that can guess what cereals we have (or at least 2 out of 4) in our cabinet will win either a set of stitch markers or a cell phone charm. Your choice.

2 guesses per person. To be fair, you can only put 6 cereals into each guess. (Images of e-mails with 50 cereals crossed my mind.)

In case of a tie there will be a drawing for the winner.

Contest will end on November 20th.

Answers will be locked in my kitchen cabinet a fireproof box, however, we will continue to stuff our faces have access to them.

Coffee Heaven

The only thing better than being able to walk into Starbucks and say "Hi Mike. Grande, please."

Dsc00571_2

and getting your mile long description drink, done perfectly, is having one of the other Baristas hand you a snack bag and say "Zero dollars."

Happy Friday, all!

Yes, it's cold

Just in case you didn't know that the cold weather has arrived, Wes reminds us by using his black pad. The one that he's ignored for months.

Dsc00565_2

I don't know what I'm making for dinner but I'd like to end it with a $25,000 ice cream sundae. How about you?

November 06, 2007

Foo!

Aw, fooey!

Our wireless internet stopped working on Saturday and Tom finally managed to re-set it today. So I missed a day of NaBloMoPo. Good thing I didn't formally join, right? I missed a lot more than that because my Bloglines is at 599. I'm kind of afraid to check on my AOL mail since it's normally at around 100 on a normal day. Damned SPAM. Blech.

Today Tom and I went to the LYS and our dentist, to drop off price lists for his Thanksgiving cheesecakes. He's really been missing doing this baking and is getting psyched up for Tango Papa Desserts 2007.

We also took a trip to the new LLBean store and spent 3 hours there. A 3 HOURS TOUR! I wonder if Mr. and Mrs. Howell paid as much as we did, for their ticket. :-)

48 degrees tomorrow and I've got another golf lesson. The last one ended up kickstarting some arthritis in my right thumb and by the next day it looked like someone had stuck a sausage on my hand instead. Couldn't even hold a pen. I've hit my temperature limit and will probably have the rest of the lessons indoors.

On the brother side of the news, he's all done with everything. He went back into the city yesterday, to have certain tubes removed along with the staples that were holding him together. All looks clear and he doesn't have to go back until February. Big sigh of relief!

I'm thinking I should name this month National Babble on the Blog Month. Which, I guess, would be NaBabBloMoPo. Say that 3 times fast.

November 04, 2007

No much knitting

OK. I finally gave in. After 3 weeks of having my eyes rule my life - No Stitches, no Rhinebeck, minimal knitting, early to bed - I finally went to the eye doc. So now we're doing a "full court press" (his words). Steroid drops, another plug in the left eye - it came out last year in the Great Pink Eye Debaucle - and warm compresses. He tried to put in 2 upper lid plugs but they didn't want to go in. It was pretty uncomfortable and I don't recommend it. :-P

If all of that doesn't work we may try contact lenses. I used to wear contacts and had to stop because of the dry eye but he said that maybe they will work in reverse and would keep the moisture on my eye. I'm game if he is.

After that he said he's out of ideas and will have to refer me to a "plastics guy". So I guess I get to have a face lift and a nose job! Not sure how a plastics guy will help and I'll have him explain more, if it comes to that.

So there's the reason for not much knitting content. But I've got some new yarn so stand by for some flashing.

November 03, 2007

Are you SURE it's November?

It can't be November, the sweet peas are SO happy.

Dsc02091

Another golf lesson, yesterday. I think everybody can thank me for the nice weather. Ya see, I have to use up 3 more lessons before the end of the year and I'm NOT going to do it if the temperature is in the mid-40's.

And you're welcome.

Everytime I go TO the lesson I see these guys. But when I'm coming back they're always gone. I caught them this time.

Here sheepie, sheepie. I have some wool wash for you!!! (This scent is soooooooo nice)
Soak

First, I tried to Kennear them. They were unimpressed, and all I got was a shot of the road. I had to get closer by crossing the street.

Dsc02106_2

No idea what kind of sheep and there's no sign at the house. But one of them was very friendly.

I think it was saying "Sheeeeeeeer Meeeeeee".

An elephant's memory

An elephant's memory, 100 percent.

That mysterious, moth-threatening package? It contained this..
Dsc02112_2

Skull-and-crossbones-a-go-go! Wax lips and...there was a box of Red Hot Tamales but Tom made them disappear. There was a bunch of spider/pumpkin/skull and crossbones confetti, which I got a real kick out of because it stuck to my hands and gave the illusion of spiders, etc. that wouldn't get OFF ME! But I put them all in the pouch so Wes wouldn't eat it. Good Mom, huh?

Thank you, Rox! There will be a little extra Josh in your Christmas stocking.

Wraps are cool

If you've got any type of iPod or iPhone, check out DecalGirl. They have vinyl skins to spiff up your iPod and also help to stop those grimy disgusting looking fingerprints.

These two are my favorites...

NaBloPoMo

I don't feel like signing up for another service, however, I DO want to try to participate in NaBloPoMo...kinda on the sly. More networking stuffs - don't feel like it.

We had no trick-or-treaters last night. Perhaps the sawhorses across the front walk were a deterrent. But more than likely it was the fact that no one has EVER come to our house, in the seven years we've lived here. Perfect record!

Someone I know was almost arrested last night, for taking photo's of trick-or-treaters at their door. Some mother in the street - tho not the mother of the kids at the door - went postal and started cursing and threatening to call the police. And she did. And then she had her friends call the police as well. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? And when do they realize that they are taking things too far?

(Police showed up and found out they were wasting their time.)
